“I Know You’re a Hot Shot Entrepreneur and Everything,
But Sometimes You Gotta Do What You Gotta Do,
Until You Can Do What You Wanna Do.”
I Got a JOB!
I’ve been an entrepreneur since I graduated college in 2008, before it was “cool” to be an entrepreneur. It’s not that I was ever anti-job I just focused on my goals and a job never really fit in. The only “real” jobs I’ve had were in High School where I worked at Legends Bar and Grill and then after college, I worked at Soccer Fit Academy. I worked at Legends Bar and Grill for 6 days and I worked at Soccer Fit for 6-Months and it was an amazing experience. I Created Rock 360 right before Soccer Fit and left to work on my product full -time, in hindsight this wasn’t the best decision as I was on salary and only had about 10 hours of work a week to do at the time. That’s all my “real” work experience.
With my company FEWDM’s current state and a baby on the way, I had no other choice but to get a job to provide for my family. When I met my wife I started to add another conversation with God during my time of prayer. I wanted to let God know that I’m willing to do whatever he asks of me. I didn’t want the pursuit of my dreams to negatively affect the direction of our family. I ask God to shut the doors where he didn’t want me to go and open them up in the direction he wants me to go. Well, I feel doors slowly being shut and another opening.
I’m so thankful for this job! I love it actually! I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I really enjoy it! It’s a totally different schedule as I went from going to bed at 3:30 every night to now waking up at 5 am. My schedule is all over the place and I’m still setting my new routines but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to support my family. The biggest adjustment is I’m more tired than expected and knock out on the couch with my laptop on my lap almost every night. I went from sitting at a desk for 16 hours of my day to on my feet coaching and training people for 7 of those hours. This takes up a lot of energy, more energy than I expected and more energy than a pot of coffee can overcome lol. I underestimated this… and when I say underestimated it I mean I didn’t think about it at all.
So, what is the job? My official title is Zone 4 Fitness “Site Director” at Onelife Fitness. OneLife Fitness is the premier gym in downtown Kansas City and Zone 4 is a heart rate based training studio located inside of OneLife.
Zone 4 is described as the ultimate workout combining intervals of cardio and functional training movements in a fun and motivating group setting, designed to help you burn 500-1000 calories in one session! By monitoring your heart rate during your session, you’re guaranteed to reach new levels of fitness. The ultimate goal is to produce an incredible post-exercise “afterburn effect” meaning extra fat and calories burned for up to 36 hours following your workout.
It’s been a great experience thus far and I get to work with and train a bunch of great people! I’m excited to continue to work and build those relationships.
Note to Self – Don’t be tired.
